The Greenwood County Democratic Party is an active local political organization whose mission is to inform and enable voters in the community, providing education, activism, and open discussions on the issues that elected officials have the responsibility to address through legislation.
We are seeking interns who wish to get involved in politics, develop communication skill, and learn about technology tools used in political activism. Previous experience is not needed – we will work with and train any individual who is looking to get hands-on experience that will be useful in a future career.
Activities for interning with the Greenwood County Democratic Party include:
Communications
- Construct effective messaging on issues, for candidates, or for increasing turnout at events like fundraisers or community projects
- Graphic design (digital and print media)
- Posters, banners, shirt, hat, bag & other merchandise design
- Effective messaging through meme creation
- Video & audio editing
- Contributing to social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Tik Tok, Snapchat)
- Explore and act upon various paid promotions in print, radio, or television
Activism
- Door to door campaigning and interpersonal communication
- Voter registration drives
- Phonebanking to help with voter turnout
- Assist in planning & executing fundraising events
- Look for opportunities for community improvement activities (park & road cleanup, nonprofit org partnership, sponsorships)
- Work directly on campaigns for local candidates
- Research issues and proposed legislation; help educate the community by breaking them down into easy to understand, digestible formats.
Data & Technology
- Query voter registration database to determine optimal targets for messaging
- Reviewing election result history and develop insights into various voting territories
- Utilize mapping software to derive demographic insights and assist with strategic campaigning
- Maintain and grow our website with easy-to-access, useful information to educate and engage voters
