‘Big Lie’ proponents not fit for office

Published in the Index Journal on Jan 29, 2022.

It was reported last week that two candidates, Stewart Jones and Cole Kazmarski, will be running to represent SC State House 14. Both are attempting to position themselves as the most extreme proponent of the conspiracy theory known as the Big Lie. Despite every possible audit, investigation, review and litigation, there has been zero evidence of widespread election fraud that would have kept Donald Trump in office. Even the Cyber Monkeys outfit in Arizona, founded by a conspiracy theorist who wasted millions of taxpayer dollars conducting an audit, could find no problems. Every YouTube posting providing “proof” of election nefariousness has been thoroughly debunked ten ways to Sunday. To hold to an opinion despite the preponderance of evidence otherwise isn’t a virtue. And it certainly should call into doubt one’s fitness to serve in a legislative body.

So when I hear Portman, LaRose, Romney and others oppose the “federal takeover” of voting rights, I knew it sounded familiar.

Indeed, that was the precise framing used by the Southern segregationists dedicated to stopping any and all civil rights legislation…but who knew they could no longer appeal to openly racist sentiments as their forerunners had.

One Year of the Biden-Harris Administration

When Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were sworn in as President and Vice-President, our nation was at one of the lowest points in her history. With their steady leadership, our nation accomplished great things during their first year, despite the continued crises that rampaged across the globe.

Got Shots in Arms & Saved Lives: President Biden set up a historic vaccination program that resulted in more than 200 million Americans fully vaccinated: almost 75% of all adults. Millions of teenagers and children are now vaccinated, and tens of millions of Americans are getting booster shots. And, over 95% of schools were open in person this month. All these steps have and continue to save countless lives.

Got People Back to Work: President Biden has grown the economy faster than in decades and added 6.4 million jobs – more in one year than ever on record. Recent average weekly unemployment claims are down near a level not seen in decades. Economic growth is the strongest in two generations.
