At the December Breakfast Meeting, Chair Bill Kimler led an open discussion about the perceived problems with Democratic messaging and what we can do about it.

This discussion was prompted by a phone call broadcast on the Sarah Silverman podcast. A Texan Democrat had called to voice his frustrations with the lack of progress by the Democrats after winning the 2020 election. Listen to this call for yourself.
A week later, another caller left a message with an interesting response.
How do these two points of view resonate with you? You can watch the full video of the full discussion and hear various ideas and points of view on the subject. We concluded this segment with a timeless, inspirational statement about what the Democratic Party stands for from a former President.
Tuesday Dec 28, 2021 is Election Day for many in Greenwood County. If you live in District 5, the position for County Council is up for election. Polls open from 7 am to 7 pm.

SC Senator Tim Scott has been beating the same drum for the past few months about exaggerated supply chain issues that we’re just not seeing. Have there been some shortages? Sure. But it’s been nowhere near as bad as Tim Scott has made it out to be and it’s clearly been getting better with every passing week.
But today, Tim Scott has stooped to outright lying in order to scare the citizens of South Carolina into believe a crisis exists where one does not.
See his tweet from today:

Despite the blatantly bad photoshopped “elf on a shelf” (which could be forgiven given the season), the image of the empty refrigerated shelves actually comes from an article titled “5 Best Refrigerator Stores in Albuquerque, NM“!

It looks like living under the shadow of notorious liar Donald Trump has caused Senator Tim Scott to take on some of his worst characteristics! Remember this as Tim Scott seeks your trust & vote in 2022!
JaDasia Mitchell has interned with the Greenwood County Democratic Party for the past few months on her way towards graduating from Lander University with a degree in Political Science.
At our December Breakfast Meeting, JaDasia took a few minutes to talk about her experience, the projects she worked on, and about the relative lack of passion for politics among the youth.
We thank JaDasia for all of her hard work and wish her the best of success in her endeavors!
“We need to challenge every race!”
Judd Larkins, US Congressional Candidate for SC-2.
Judd is a native of Greenwood County who now resides in the Midlands. He is running for US Congress but took some time to visit his hometown and speak with us at our December Breakfast meeting.
Watch his full speech below!
At the Dec 2021 Breakfast Meeting, Kervin Searles, owner of Gravity Counseling Group and host of the “Speaking with Gravity” podcast, spoke with us about the very important topic of Mental Health.
You can watch his educational presentation below as well as review the notes and links he shared with us. Mr. Searles also entertained a number of questions from us, which we included as a bonus video!

The following resolution was adopted by the Executive Committee and presented at the December Breakfast Meeting
WHEREAS, a core component of the Democratic Party Platform is to “oppose and fight to overturn federal and state laws that create barriers to reproductive health and rights;”
WHEREAS, an anti-abortion rally was held in Greenwood, SC on Sunday, Oct 3 by individuals diametrically opposed to said rights and access to reproductive health;
WHEREAS, Brooke Sanders took it upon herself to engage in a single-person counter-protest, showing initiative and bravery on behalf of women’s rights;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Greenwood County Democratic Party commends and thanks Brooke Sanders for her strength of conviction, holding her as an example of “walking the talk,” and will use her single voice crying out for righteousness as a call to action for our membership to do likewise when similar opportunities arise.
Adopted this 21st day of October 2021, in Greenwood, SC by the undersigned Executive Committee of the Greenwood County Democratic Party

Today is not a day that you need to hear anything from me. Instead, I encourage you to take some time to hear directly from six members of the GWCDP who have served our country over the decades. While their experiences are as varied as our nation overall they were all asked the same question at the end of the video yet had very similar responses.
Do you have 12 minutes that you can spare to hear their words today?
Thank you to the following who contributed their time to this video and to all who have heeded the call to serve our country. We are forever in your debt.
Sloan Griffin, Jr – Dr. Bob Phillips – Claudia Thomas
Chad Farrell – Frank Koczwara – David Gaskin

November Volunteers of the Month announced
Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Democratic Party. We were thrilled to recognize Claudia Thomas and Chad Farrell as our Volunteers of the Month for November! They attended their first Breakfast Meeting just this past July but since then they’ve been instrumental in the success of the Floyd’s Fish Fry and have assisted with Breakfast Meetings since. Thank you for your contribution to the cause!

SC Senate Redistricting
In a surprising proposal, a major shifting of Senate territories has been shared by the SC Senate staff. Greenwood County, which was mostly in District 10 except for a little “finger” that comes down from Anderson, would be fully in District 10 in the new proposal.
